Moreover, in a news release, the El Paso Police Department confirmed the identities of the victims. Carlos Lechuga, 35, died on December 9 around 10 p.m. after dropping nearly four stories from I-10 near Americas. Along with 33-year-old Hector Mendoza who was also thrown off the Interstate. However, he is in the hospital with serious injuries.

According to police, a tractor-trailer stopped in the right lane of the exit ramp. In order to help the stalled driver, Lechuga and Mendoza parked a GMC Sierra in front of the tractor-trailer.

Shortly after, a Cadillac Escalade driven by 22-year-old Martin Castaneda struck the tractor-trailer, which in turn hit the GMC Sierra hurling it into both men. According to reports, Castaneda was “weaving in and out of lanes” before hitting the tractor-trailer.

The Men Fell Off the Interstate

As a result, the two men were thrown approximately four stories off the suspension bridge, as reported by police.

Apart from this, both men were taken to Del Sol Hospital for treatment. However, Lechuga died soon after from his injuries.

While Castaneda was also hospitalized, his injuries were non-life threatening, police said. He will almost certainly survive his injuries.

Furthermore, at this time, no charges have been announced by the police. However, it’s possible that the police will eventually press charges against Castaneda. After all, the two injured men were just trying to help the poor trucker. It seems like it should be Castaneda’s job to pay attention enough to avoid killing a man. Hopefully, the police agree with that assessment.
