The American-based automobile manufacturer has confirmed a recall that affects thousands of vehicle owners across the United States, many of whom reside in Texas. The recall specifically affects nearly 150,000 vehicles throughout the country according to reports from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This recall makes 40 different recalls for the American automaker in 2025 alone. In this instance, the recall is for two different issues. The first issue has to do with a fluid leak. Reports show this affects around 120,000 vehicles. The second issue has to do with software problems. This issue is present in an additional 25,000 cars. Ford has confirmed that both issues are small, but if they are left unaddressed then they could cause severe harm to the vehicle. Particularly, brake function could be reduced, and engines may stall.
If these malfunctions occur, the driver has an increased risk of crashing.
So far, the effected vehicles for the fluid leak are three different models from 2017 and 2018. The affected models are the Ford F-150, the Ford Expedition, and the Lincoln Navigator. The effected vehicle for software issue is just one model of Ford so far. 2025 Ford Explorers are the vehicles experiencing software issues.
The software issues have to do with the vehicle’s PCM.
The PCM is the vehicle’s powertrain control module. The software issues occurring in the PCM mean the vehicle’s parking system is possibly damaged and the vehicle is possibly stalling suddenly.
According to the automaker, affected vehicle owners will receive notice by May 26.
If you receive notice that your vehicle is under the recall order, do not panic. You have options to repair the issue and get your car back to running as smoothly as possible. The simplest solution is to bring your vehicle to a Ford dealership. Dealers will be able to order replacement parts to repair the fluid leak issue and will be able to fix the software problems on sight. For either service, owners will not be charged if they go to a Ford dealer.
Just a few days after this recall came out, an additional Ford recall was announced.
This new recall affects the windows, specifically the auto-reverse function. This is a feature that is designed to detect when things are in the way of the window, such as fingers or a hand, and then automatically reverse in order to avoid hitting the obstruction. However, this feature is having massive issues in some Ford vehicles lately. While this does not ultimately affect the functionality of a vehicle, it does lead to safety concerns, especially when children are present in the vehicle. This recall affects Ford Everest models from 2022 to 2024 and Ford Transit Custom models from the same year.
