EL PASO, Texas – It is the third day of trial for the man accused of stabbing and killing an off-duty Border Patrol agent is underway.
Hisaias Lopez is on trial for the 2nd time who is accused in the death of Isaac Morales who died after he was stabbed in the eye last year.
Lopez’s 1st trial ended in a hung jury earlier this year. The incident was that he allegedly stabbed Morales during a fight outside a far east El Paso bar.
Lopez’s wife took the stand Wednesday to give details about when and where she and Lopez had been prior to the fight. She said they each had a beer and a shot at Union Draft House.
The defense explained more about the injuries Lopez sustained in the fight and brought in an ophthalmologist to talk about Lopez’s nerve damage to his right eye. There were photos and video that showed the beaten up eye of the suspect.
However, the eye doctor said Lopez had blunt force trauma to the eye but could not say when exactly the injury appeared on his face.
The jury was not in the courtroom Wednesday and Lopez was not allowed to testify in front of them.
The documents of the medical care Lopez received after the fight were submitted to keep arson record but will not be presented to the jury for now.
