The FMSCA announced the proposal of a new rule that will help identify unfit motor carriers. The Safety Fitness Determination Notice of Proposed Rulemaking would update the methods of safety fitness rating by getting data from inspections, crash reports and carrier investigations results every month.
As motor carriers safe operation is a top priority, all the available data must be used to see what companies are not safe and get them off the road. Carriers identified as unfit would be removed from the road until proven to have improved.
