EL PASO, Texas — Two men were charged with aggravated robbery after they carjacked a couple in east El Paso, police said.
The incident took place last Saturday when the couple was sitting in their car on the 1500 block of Diego Rivera Drive near Vista Del Sol Drive.
Police said two men, one armed with a knife and the other with a handgun, stole the victim’s vehicle.
The men were identified by police as Edward Mercado, 23, and Ruben Galindo, 24. No further information is released about the suspects.
Officers with the auto theft task force later spotted the vehicle. Police said Mercado was driving the car and that officers recovered the stolen gun believed to have been used in the robbery.
Mercado was charged with aggravated robbery, unlawful carrying of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance. Galindo was charged with aggravated robbery, theft and had outstanding traffic warrants, police said.
